The Story: In a strange irony, the psychologist is insane himself. Dr. Jonathan Crane was once a respectived professional and a professor at Gotham University. He specializes in the psychology of fear and phobias, an interest that began in his youth. He was abandoned by his parents to his maternal grandmother who was a religious fanatic that physically and emotionally abused him. Growing up, Jonathan was the bookish, nerdy type and was ostracized and tormented for both his interests and his appearance. During his school years he became fascinated by chemistry and learned all that he could behind his grandmother’s back who would have none of it. Eventually her abuse and the bullying he experienced daily pushed him to the brink of desperation; Jonathan killed his grandmother and brought a gun to a school dance dressed up as a scarecrow (one of the names bullies called him) and caused a scene that resulted in one of his tormentors, jock Bo Griggs being paralyzed from the waist down and the death of his girlfriend Sherry Squires. This was the beginning of his fascination with fear and scaring people, literally, to death.

Jonathan was relieved of his position at Gotham University after injuring a student while demonstrating one of his theories. This brought up many painful memories for Jonathan and he swore revenge on those who were responsible for firing him. He once again took up the mantle of a scarecrow, calling himself by the same name. Utilizing his skills in biochemistry and his interest in fear, he developed a fear gas that caused his victims to hallucinate their worst fears and in some cases, cause them to develop new ones. Crane’s primary motivation, when it’s not revenge, is his research. It often involves fear gas bombs, kidnapping, murder, theft, and the drug trade in Gotham City. He is often subdued by the Dark Knight and is in and out of Arkham Asylum. Unlike many villians, Dr. Crane’s endgame goals remain unclear. Perhaps if there were ever a point when he collected enough research, he would have nothing left to live for.

Currently he resides in Gotham, always planning his next scheme to unleash unspeakable fear into the hearts and minds of the denizens of the crime-riddled city. He has worked with a number of criminals, notably the Falcone crime ring, the Joker, and Black Mask in performing heists and assisting in the drug trade. In December 2012 he began a relationship with Selina Kyle. Since January 2013, he lived with Selina and their cats: An orange tabby named Clyde, a tuxedo cat named Bonnie, and her black cat Isis as well as Jonathan's grey tabby Cora.

On September 21st, 2013 Selina was involved in an car accident and was pronounced dead. Her will left assets to Jonathan Crane. Unable to continue living at a house full of memories and one much too large for one person, Jonathan moved to a new apartment in late October.

Jonathan currently is working with a set of experimental chemicals that have come into his posession to continue perfecting his growing variety of fear toxins.

Natasha is the mother of a newborn baby and dating Quentin Beck, who is also the father. This isn't public knowledge and only a few people know who the father is and who Natasha is seeing. Natasha, now going as Nadine Roman to the general public of Gotham City, moved from New York after needing a change. The life of being an Avenger and a SHIELD agent became tiresome. She set up a private investigation firm called "Roman Investigations". She lives out of the office and currently trying to adjust to a different life while also avoiding the Batman.

Fastforward 300 years into the future, and you have the same Natasha. She's a little worse for wear with scars covering her body from head to toe, but the difference is that she works in the Alliance Navy at the rank of Lieutenant. Her specialty is in espionage with prior knowlede of Cerberus. She's a biotic (resembling the powers of vanguard).
